Meet the photographer

Gabrielle O’Brien is a Melbourne-based photographer whose work explores our natural world and documents the delicate, intricate and obscure. She advocates for subjects that have experienced the devastating effects of human activity. Entwining photography and nature, she hopes to inspire a deeper appreciation for the environment and responsibility for its preservation.

O’Brien’s recent works include Resplendere (2025), which documents the changes in her local environment since her childhood; Deeply Seeded (2025), a performative series where the pomegranate fruit is a metaphor for love; and her Latest work Lītorālis (2025-26), which documents the impacts of human activity on rock pools through colours and patterns.
